Knights' Keene honored

People from all walks of life came out to witness the first annual Dr. Marissa C. Keene Memorial Volleyball Tournament at the St. Augustine Wellness Center all day on Friday.
The five-team tournament brought in some of the best small schools in South Texas and will continue through Saturday with the last games scheduled for 5 p.m.
Cotulla, which is coached by Fran Adami, has been a force in the playoffs. Also making its way to the Gateway City was Carrizo Springs, which has emerged as the tourney favorite after the first day of play.
Prior to the start of the St. Augustine-Bruni game late Friday, St. Augustine honored Keene's legacy.
St. Augustine principal Olga Gentry opened the ceremony with a prayer and introduced Bishop James Tamayo, who blessed the religious painting that would be presented to Keene's parents.
Gentry talked about the success of the tournament and how the St. Augustine family pulled together for one of their own.
Gentry, along with the St. Augustine athletic director Rodrigo Romo, presented Keene's parents, Drs. Roger and Gladys Keene, with a T-shirt, cap and the painting that was blessed by Tamayo.
